However, when paintwork is damaged, or the dent is near the edge of a panel, paintless dent repair may not be appropriate. Let’s take a look at how the process works.
What Is paintless dent repair?
Paintless dent repair is a method of removing a dent from your car without using paint or filler or requiring complete panel replacement. Instead, you massage the dent out of the bodywork.
The process is quick and easy and can restore a panel to its original condition. This technique is ideal for smaller dings and panel dents when there’s no damage to the paintwork.
How does the process work?
First, the technician will assess the damage to your car and advise if paintless dent repair is a suitable option. This will depend on the location of the dent; how big it is and how easy or difficult it is to get to it.
If they can effectively remove the dent with a paintless dent repair, the next step is to prepare the area around the dent. This could require access to the back side of the dent, which may mean removing body panels, lights, or occasionally interior panels to make a pathway to the dent.
A special light board may be used to give the technician a better view of the dent. This board shows the shadow of the dent, so the technician knows where to place the tools to massage the body back to its original condition. Slow pressure is then applied to work out the dent, and special tools are used to press the exterior into position.
